Expect some jazz!

I’m in a very jazzy mood right now (as I often am), and I think it would be great to have an all-jazz show next Tuesday!

For those of you who think you don’t like jazz, please try to keep in mind that, like most styles of music; jazz covers a huge spectrum of styles. I will play something that you will like!

That said, I’ve already got a bunch of possibilities lined up: some Oscar Peterson, Stan Getz, Michael Brecker, David Braid, The Bad Plus… Oh yeah! There will be some good stuff! Are there any great jazz tunes that you know and would like to hear on the air? Let me know if you have any suggestions.

  1. Woohoo! That’s a great idea! 🙂 Can’t wait to hear it. Really like the show too, btw! I’ve been introduced to a lot of new tunes.

    • Hi Tabitha!

      Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you like the show. I don’t imagine there are a whole lot of people listening, but it’s nice to know that friends are! 😀

      Let me know if you have any requests.

  2. I would listen to this show faithfully even if I wasn’t your father. I would. Because you play music that I love. I have a few suggestions for tomorrow’s show;

    – Weather report (anything)
    – Sarah Vaughn (some cool standard)
    – Do you have anyone singing ‘Stormy Weather’? Dinah Washington maybe?
    -Dirty Dozen Brass Band
    – Something that sounds like Herbie Hancock electronic jazz but not Hancock….

    Have a great show!

    • Thanks dad. Great suggestions!

      I was thinking of some Weather Report, but the only album I have is on Vinyl, and I’m avoiding bringing records to the station until it warms up again because they get so brittle in the cold, and I’d hate to drop a bunch of records and destroy them. To make up for it, I have a Weather Report cover done by Kurt Elling lined up that I might play. There is one other Elling tune I want to play too, though, so we’ll see.

      I do have a Sarah Vaughan tune lined up. Hopefully I’ll be able to get to it. It’s one of my favorites.

      I was torn as to whether I’d play some DD Brass Band or Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band this time around. Currently, GG Big Phat Band is winning. There’s a tune I’m just dying to play from them.

      Something electro-Hancock-like… I’ll have to do some digging. I think I can come up with a couple that would be close. There’s only one Herbie Hancock, but there’s a lot of cool electro-jazz stuff.
