It’s going to be a special program tonight on WPIT! I’ve long had a bit of a fascination with vinyl records, dating all the way back to when I broke my dad’s turntable as a tyke. I bought my first turntable just a few years ago – let’s say, around 5 or 6 years – at the Community Radio Garage Sale, of all places, and have been building a steady collection ever since. I like old records for that old record sound – some crackle and fuzz, but I also like buying new records. Partly for novelty, I’ll admit, but partly because I’m convinced it just sounds nicer than CD and certainly nicer than mp3. It’s just a bigger, warmer, nicer sound. That said, I’ve probably accumulated around 200 records since then. Some neat old jazz stuff, pop rock stuff, electronic, funk, reggae, symphonic, experimental, rare and odd stuff…
So, I’ve decided to start Long-Play Tuesday! On the last Tuesday of every month, I will play all vinyl records.
That said, you can get at least an idea of what’ll go down tonight. I’ve played plenty of records on the show in the past, but this time I’ll be getting down and dirty – digging into the depths to find some cool selections to cram into the hour! I know you’re going to like this!
1. Willie Nelson – I Guess I’ve Come To Live Here
2. Wailing Souls – Lay It On The Line
3. Dumb Angel – Two Leaves
4. Buddy Holly – Everyday
5. Jason Collett – Cold Blue Halo
6. Taj Mahal – Corinna
7. Stevie Wonder – Love’s In Need Of Love Today
8. Chick Corea – Crystal Silence
9. Elmer Gill – After Hours
10. Weather Report – Havona
11. Pat Metheny & Ornett Coleman – Mob Job
12. Rob McConnell & The Boss Brass – Everytime We Say Goodbye
Thanks, as always, for listening. I hope you liked listening as much as I did.
Next week, tune in at the same time, but stick around. What Planet Is This?! will be running until 10:00 PM next Tuesday, as The Shadow from That Rock Show will be away for the night. You never know what I might pull out of the bag with two hours at my disposal! Hope you can tune in then.
