Show #50 (I think) Playlist, etc. + LONG-PLAY TUESDAY!

Show #50 (I think)! Holy smokes. Time flies on by, doesn’t it?

Since it’s the last Tuesday of the month, it’s Long-Play Tuesday, of course: the one night each month when I play nothing but vinyl records!

If you’re a vinyl-head, you already know why you like hearing it. If not, make yourself comfortable, put on your favourite pair of headphones, close your eyes and enjoy an hour of big, warm sound.

I decided not to hold back this week. Nothing but fantastic music in all of its glory! There’s some brand new stuff, some old stuff, different genres, and I might even have one treat, just because it’s so close to Hallowe’en!

1. London Elektricity & Robert Owens – Different Drum (Harlesden Cyantific Remix)
2. Caribou – Odessa
3. Beck – Ghettochip Malfunction (Hell Yes)
4. Easy Star All-Stars – Us and Then
5. AFX – PWSteal.Ldpinch
6. Elmer Gill – My Ship
7. Daryle Louis Lechinsky – Free World With The Blues
8. Pat Metheny Group – Tell It All
9. Jason Collett – The Slowest Dance
10. Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings – She Ain’t A Child No More
11. Ray Parker Jr. – Ghostbusters

Show #49 (I think) Playlist, etc.

Sweet Chaos! I’m throwing everything up to fate, tonight. I usually spend the week between shows adding tunes to a long possible-playlist, but this week: I’m just going to wing it. Let’s see what I pull out of the vaults… Maybe some jazz, maybe some folk, some electronic stuff, some funk, some Cuban guitar stuff… Maybe all or none of that. We’ll see.

1. War – The Cisco Kid
2. Mr. Something Something – City Of Sand
3. Caribou – Leave House
4. cloudy, with occasional rain – air
5. Spyro Gyra – Cockatoo
6. Nicholas Payton – Tight Like This
7. Rob McConnell & the Boss Brass – Schlep It Up To Joe
8. Ibraham Ferrer – Silencio
9. Count Basie – Trey of Hearts
10. Fanfarlo – Good Morning Midnight
11. Joe Pass – Li’l Darlin’

Thank you so much for listening.

Show #48 (I think) Playlist, etc.

Point #1: Radiothon is officially over, but you can still pledge your support for Regina Community Radio! Every little bit helps and is more appreciated than you might know.

Point #2: How many .mp3s/.m4as/.flac/ etc. files do you have?

Point #3: It’s Tuesday! I don’t know if I’ll be able to top last week’s special Radiothon edition, and it was Long-Play Tuesday before that, but I’ve got a great line-up of tunes for tonight, and I bought some new oolong tea to bring to the station and complete the experience (not to drink in the control room, of course)!

Tonight, you can expect something very cool from Herbie Hancock’s new Imagine Project, some powerful Nina Simone, one of the best Oscar Peterson Trio recordings ever, and a whole lot more.

1. Herbie Hancock – Imagine
2. Karl Denson – Rumpwinder
3. Nina Simone – Sinnerman
4. Do Make Say Think – 107 Reasons Why
5. Gil Evans – Where Flamingos Fly
6. Amelia Curran – The Dozens
7. The Quail – Cease Fire Pt. 1
8. Paul McCartney – Jenny Wren
9. Stanley Turrentine – Can’t Buy Me Love
10. Arcade Fire – Ocean of Noise

Thanks, as always, for listening. Special thanks again to Brenda Tacik of Regina Community Radio’s Regina’s Mighty Shores, for lending me her copy of that lovely Amelia Curran album. I hope you enjoyed tonight’s program as much as I did and hope you can tune in again next week.

How many .mp3s/.m4as/.flac/ etc. files do you have?

We all know that digital music is huge right now. We all know that people have their preferences (CD, digital, LP, etc). Personally, I rip (upload) almost every CD I get or even borrow (I know, I know). This has lead to me getting an external hard drive solely for storing mp3s.

When at home, I usually prefer to listed to records or CDs, but if I know I’m going to be sitting at the computer for a while, I just start up good ol’ Winamp, switch on Random and hit play.

Same while I’m at work (since I work at a computer) – headphones on, push play, get to work.

I really like having a digital copy of all my tunes and as I continue to rip my collection while I built it in physical form, I like to see Winamp count the files for me.

21542 mp3s

Winamp currently counts 21542 music files on my computer. Just wondering: how many (if any) do you have?
