Show #165 (I think) Playlist, etc.

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, right? That’s a slightly ambiguous old phrase. It doesn’t mean that if you always be nice, you’ll always get a face full of fist in return. It means if you are kind towards others, others will be kind to you (and so on). This applies to everything. It’s that whole balance of the universe concept. To relate it to most of us in the West: you reap what you sow. It doesn’t mean, “Do good or you’ll be punished.” It means, “Do good and you’ll receive good.” There. Now it’s more ambiguous. Perfect! :S

Personally, I like to think What Planet Is This?! provides a source for non-stop good karma, 2 hours a week. Or, at least, that’s what I’m hoping for each week: a source of happiness and enjoyment for your day, something to pick you up when you feel like garbage and something to sustain that high when you’re already feeling great!

Tune in from 4:00 to 6:00 and feel good.

Show #164 (I think) Playlist, etc.

Most people would probably tell you that music is art. I’m not going to disagree, but I also thing music can be more. Naturally, I’m not the first to say this. Art is “supposed” (whatever that means) to be that thing that blends the line between fantasy and reality while being the very definition of culture. Remember that old chestnut: does art reflect culture or shape it? Surely, it is the same with music as with visual art.

Cheating at blogging: If there were time, I’d write this into a big argument for and against every angle I could think of, but for the purposes of this post, I’ll just skip to my point:

While music may be classified as art, I would argue that music is so much different from visual art that it is its own category outside of art. I’m not just talking about all that weird experimental music you can’t tap your foot to. I mean that music is not only something everyone can enjoy in one of its endless forms or another (like visual art) – it’s literally intrinsic to all being.

Music, or more primally, sound is the root of all existence – or it is existence. Sound is nothing but vibration, right? If something vibrates slowly enough, it may appear as solid. If it vibrates quickly enough, it may appear as light. Every single thing emanates a vibration. It is widely known that planets resonate at certain frequencies, just as everything has a resonating frequency. In fact, nothing ever stops vibrating. If nothing ever stops vibrating, that means that everything that has ever vibrated is still vibrating.

As you listen to What Planet Is This?! from 4:00 to 6:00 today, remember that every vibration you experience will continue to vibrate forever. 🙂

Show #163 (I think) Playlist, etc. + Jazz Day

Ray Charles

And why not? It’s the first Wednesday of the month and today I’ve got a line-up of top-notch jazz – from some of the old masters to some of today’s leading exponents. To drop a few names: Sonny Rollins, Joshua Redman, The Bad Plus, Kelly Jefferson, Kirk MacDonald and Greenrite Michigan. I just threw Greenrite in there. No idea why.

Tune in from 4:00 to 6:00 tonight and enjoy!
