Nothing beats the sound of a nice record and a cold drink on a warm day.

At the end of the day, at least there’s good music.

It’s rainy again, I’m sick, I’m so tired I think I’ve begun to see and hear things that aren’t really there, life keeps speeding up and all I want to do is slow down. Man, now would be a perfect time for some blues. One of my favourite quotations comes from The Simpsons, when Bleeding Gums Murphy was talking to Lisa,

“The Blues isn’t about feeling better. It’s about making other people feel worse – and making a few bucks while you’re at it.”

Sadly, that is not my intention with the show today. As much as I would like to have us all wallow in self-pity for a couple of hours (and we all know there is no shortage of great blues music to get us there), I’m actually going to attempt the opposite: feel-good music. And I don’t mean that obnoxious self-help, you-can-do-it, go-the-distance tripe. I mean the type of stuff that genuinely makes you feel, “You know what? Things aren’t so bad.”

With your mind wide open, and all the good intentions you can muster, tune in from 4:00 to 6:00 today and enjoy.

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones

Another year, another Regina Community Radio Garage Sale passed.

Packed like sardines, or, more apt in this case, cattle, in the foyer of the grand GMC building to escape the increasing rain, 10, then 20, then 30 people waited eagerly for the signal that the sale would be open. With no room left in the tiny entrance, the line began to form outside. At 9:00 AM, we were waved in and an onslaught of humans dashed to their favourite genres – most to the somewhat intimidating rock/pop section, many to the folk room, a few to the classical aisle, and I in a handful of others to the jazz area.

After 30 or 40 minutes of chaos, we decided to call it a success and left to count and compare our treasures.

Today on What Planet Is This?!, tune in for a special post-Community Radio Garage Sale show. From 4:00 to 6:00 PM, I’ll be showing off some of the great finds that have come to be in my collection.

Beep. Squawk! AAAAHHHHH!!

Oh good, you made it! I was beginning to think there was no hope left. Don’t let them fool you with their cleverly-made disguises and lies. That’s how they get you.

Put on your tinfoil hat, turn off all electronic devices besides your radio receiver (it’s an unfortunate necessity to recieve important updates – keep it on 91.3 FM), light a candle for warmth and light (don’t use their controlled heat and power, that’s what they want you to do, man), put on headphones, but keep the volume low enough that you will hear them coming and have a chance to escape out the side window.

Tune in from 4:00 to 6:00.

End transmission.
